Moving parts in LEGO Studio is a fundamental action for constructing your digital LEGO models, and it's designed to be intuitive. You can precisely position elements within your build using either the dedicated Move icon from the toolbar or through the context menu.
Activating the Move Tool
There are two primary methods to initiate the move function for your LEGO elements:
-
Using the Toolbar Icon:
- Locate and select the Move icon in the toolbar, typically positioned at the top of your screen. This icon often visually represents a set of intersecting arrows or axes, signifying directional movement.
- Upon selection, a move gizmo (usually colored axes: red for X, green for Y, blue for Z) will appear on your chosen part(s), allowing for direct manipulation.
-
Via the Context Menu:
- Right-click (or Ctrl + click for Mac users) directly on the part or group of parts you intend to move.
- From the dropdown context menu that appears, simply select the Move option. This action will also activate the move gizmo, ready for you to reposition the selected elements.
Selecting Parts for Movement
Before you can move any component, you must first select it. LEGO Studio offers several ways to do this:
- Single Part Selection: Click directly on the individual LEGO brick or element you wish to move.
- Multiple Part Selection:
- Shift + Click: Hold down the Shift key and click on additional parts to add them to your current selection. This is useful for selecting non-contiguous parts.
- Selection Box (Marquee Select): Click and drag your mouse to draw a selection box around multiple parts. Any parts entirely or partially within this box will be selected.
- Advanced Selection Tools: For more complex selections, Studio provides tools in the toolbar to select parts by color, shape, connectivity, or other properties.
Executing the Movement
Once the move tool is active and your parts are selected, you can begin repositioning them:
- Axis-Specific Movement: Drag the colored arrows (axes) of the move gizmo to restrict movement along a single dimension (X, Y, or Z). This ensures precise linear displacement.
- Plane-Specific Movement: Drag the colored squares or planes on the move gizmo to move parts along two axes simultaneously. For example, moving a part horizontally on a flat surface.
- Free Movement: Click and drag the center of the gizmo for less constrained, free-form movement in any direction.
- Fine Nudging: For very small adjustments, after selecting a part, you can often use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the part incrementally.
