To use the Ender portal in Minecraft, you must activate it by placing Eyes of Ender into all 12 frame blocks, then simply walk into the activated portal to be transported to The End.
The Ender portal serves as a crucial gateway to The End, a mysterious dimension where players confront the Ender Dragon, one of Minecraft's primary boss mobs.
Activating the Ender Portal
Before you can use an Ender portal, you first need to find and activate it. Ender portals are naturally generated structures found exclusively in Strongholds, ancient underground complexes.
Here's how to activate and use it:
- Locate a Stronghold: Use Eyes of Ender by right-clicking them; they will fly into the air and point towards the nearest Stronghold. Follow their direction until they start flying downwards, indicating you are above the Stronghold. Dig down carefully to find it.
- Find the Portal Room: Once inside a Stronghold, navigate through its various rooms until you discover the portal room. This room contains a square frame made of 12 End Portal Frame blocks, often with a lava pool underneath.
- Place Eyes of Ender: The End Portal frame has slots for 12 Eyes of Ender. Some of these slots may already have an Eye of Ender inserted when you find it. Your task is to fill any empty slots.
- Crafting Eyes of Ender: Each Eye of Ender requires one Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen) and one Blaze Powder (crafted from Blaze Rods, dropped by Blazes in the Nether).
- Inserting: Right-click on each empty End Portal Frame block with an Eye of Ender in your hand.
- Portal Activation: Once all 12 End Portal Frame blocks have an Eye of Ender inserted, the portal will activate. A swirling, starry void will appear within the frame, indicating it's ready for use.
- Enter The End: Simply walk or jump into the activated portal. You will be instantly transported to The End dimension.
What to Expect in The End
Upon entering The End, you'll find yourself on a central island primarily composed of End Stone. The primary objective here is to defeat the Ender Dragon.
- Battle the Ender Dragon: Prepare for a challenging fight. The Ender Dragon is healed by End Crystals located on obsidian pillars around the island. Destroying these crystals first is crucial for an easier battle.
- Respawn the Dragon: After you defeat the Ender Dragon, you can respawn it whenever you want by placing four End Crystals on the edges of the exit portal in the center of the main island. This allows you to re-experience the fight and collect more experience points.
- Explore Outer Islands: After defeating the Ender Dragon, a new portal (the End Gateway) will appear on the main island, leading to the outer End islands. Here, you can find End Cities, Shulkers, and obtain Elytra and Dragon's Breath.
